How wonderful!
Lisl: I enjoy collecting them, Ray
These wood carvings are beautiful, the artist who created them was very talented. Thank you for making me discover them
Lisl: These come from 16th Century bench ends in Churches in South West England, Marie

There are a lot of open mouths here Lisl. I wonder what exactly this feature is intended to denote? Actually some of these things look quite argumentative..
Lisl: They certainly all seem to have some character, Chris
Hunky punks! How fabulous, Lisl. smile
Lisl: I just loved it when I found out what they were called, Ginnie

Lots of fine detail here. I wonder what they symbolise?
Lisl: I can't begin to imagine either, Alan

I've never heard the term "hunky punks" before in this context. Thanks to Google, I'm now wiser.
Lisl: It was a new name for me when I first heard it about 10 years ago. I have been photographing them ever since

Wonderful carvings Lisl, what a find. There is a combative look about these pairs.
Lisl: They came from one or two different Churches, but the theme seems the same - but what it is, I don't know - probably just whimsy
I have never seen anything like these. Wonderful aren't they?
Lisl: I love them, and search diligently whenever I can in West Country Churches

Wonderful details of wood carving! They look like sea horses, of apotorpaic meaning?
Lisl: The meaning is beyond me, Philine - perhaps just whimsical carvings, though I have seen similar in quite a few Churches over the years

Symbolic Seahorse Meaning:
Lisl: Thank you, Philine. Do you think any of the above personify any of these virtues?
Something I have never heard of.
Lisl: I guess you won't find them where you live, Mary!
I agree with Philine, they do resemble sea horses. I really like how you've presented them, Lisl.
Lisl: Thank you, Beverly - I wanted to show as many as possible

What a bunch of fish - even an elephant fish and a dog fish. Must be a fishy business. Great collage.
Lisl: Thank you, Louis - It hadn't occurred to me they were fish. Still not convinced
very nice, Lisl! i did not realize that they were not the same creatures on either side of the median.
Lisl: All different, Ayush - and I have many more photos on the same theme, but all different
A fine selection there Lisl.
Lisl: Many thanks, Brian
