beautiful sculpture, beautifully photographed
Lisl: Thank you kindly, sherri
Superbe cette sculpture.
Lisl: For a modern church sculpture, this get full marks
What a lovely image, Lisl!
Lisl: Isn't she beautiful?
I've never heard of her before, nicely captured, Elisabeth.
Lisl: She is virtually unknown - there are only two Churches in her name, both in Gloucestershire
What a lovely niche, Lisl, for this saint. It looks so...ancient.
Lisl: The niche is medieval, Ginnie

Who is St. Arilda - I have to google - Look at her pious gesture and facial expression!
Lisl: A little know saint from the Dark Ages in Britain, Philine
Saint Arilda, or Arild, was an obscure female saint from Oldbury-on-Severn in the English county of Gloucestershire. She probably lived in the 5th or 6th century and may have been of either Anglo-Saxon or Welsh origin.

Arilda was a virgin martyr who, according to John Leland, was slain by a youth named Municus when she refused to lie with him.

Good old Wiki
Lisl: That's quite correct, Bill. This was taken at St. Arilda's Church at Oldbury-on-Severn. Her only other church is at Oldbury-on-the -Hill

Newly repaid by the look of this Lisl
Lisl: Yes - and isn't it beautifully done, Chad?
A very beautiful statue which seems more modern than architecture which frames her. I like very much

"

She gave her life to Christ below

And in his strength she smote the foe.

Three times she fought the power of sin

And walked with Christ made pure within.

O bride of Christ, O virgin wise,

The world was worthless in your eyes.

You now in heaven's eternal light

Are clothed in robes of glory bright."
Lisl: Thank you - the Hymn of St. Arilda, sung on the yearly Pilgrimage to St. Arilda's Well
It is a very fine sculpture, it doesn't seem to have weathered liek the stonework surrounding it so I'm presuming it is a later addition or replacement.
Lisl: It is a very modern statue, Brian
Nicely taken. A day of saints.
Lisl: Thank you, Mary - I do like these obscure west-country Saints

Great photograph -- did you have to use a telephoto lens to get that close?
Lisl: I used my large bridging camera Lumix FZ1000, which has a super optical zoom
Has a look of purity....
Lisl: Yes - I thought it a very pretty statue
