it is only on a handful of occasions that i remember seeing a horse lying down, Lisl.
Lisl: Not quite heat exhaustion, but it was very hot for our horses who are not used to it
Nice capture, Lisl! You wonder what's going on between them! smile
Lisl: Thank you, Elizabeth. They were wishing for sun-down!

An image to spark the imagination, Lisl.
Lisl: I am pleased it has - this must have been taken on our one hot day this summer (well, not quite)
Je ne sais pas pourquoi on met cela sur la tête des chevaux.
Lisl: C'est pour éloigner les mouches de leurs yeux et de leurs visages, Martine

Poor things having to be adorned thus to protect from sweet-itch Lisl..
Lisl: It must be very sticky under their protection, Chris
Trop sympa ...osmose homme animal ..
Bonne journée
Lisl: Mais oui, merci, Claudine

Horses like to lay down after a workout, especially when they can have roll. It can also be the first sign of some illness. I have seen knowledgeable people getting mixed up about the matter.

There must be a lot of pesky insects about, to cover them like that.
Lisl: The flies can be really awful here in hot weather, Louis. It is horrible to see them crawling into horses' eyes. And you can see he is lifiting his foot and swishing his tail against them
I have never seen a horse covered like this but reading your replies I can see why
Lisl: Yes - and you can see he is still troubled by his body language
The one is tired and the other one waits that he wakes up. We can imagine many things by looking at this photo
Lisl: And they were very, very hot, Marie

I expect just like me they prefer the other three seasons to summer.
Lisl: I certainly don't like very hot weather, but it is nice to walk in the countryside without mud

I like the three legged horse.
Lisl: It is very clever, as it is standing on only two, Chad!
I've met people who own horses that say how bad the flies can be for them. Poor things.
Lisl: I have seen so many suffering from them that it is a delight to see these horses well cared for
Oh my, how sad this is to be covered like that.
Lisl: Better than being bitten by the horseflies this is meant to keep them off, and the headgear is made of mesh so they can see through
I'm presuming these claddings were to protect the horses from the heat of the Sun.
Lisl: Sun and flies, Brian
While I understand the reasoning, it must be quite a performance putting on and removing these equine onesies
Lisl: I wonder of they stand still. I bet the foal doesn't!
It looks like it is weighting for the knight's suire to get the saddle on.
Lisl: It does look a bit like a war-horse, Michael
That should have been "waiting." I hate autocorrect!
Lisl: Don't I know it, Michael!
Plumb tuckered!
Lisl: I don't think they were going far that day, Tom!

Poor thing... the one lying on the floor.
Lisl: Just too hot, Cherie
