Hunting Scene

I am told on good authority that the boar hound on the right is called an Alaunt, and has a spiked colllar - its "badge of office"

It seems to be beautifully etched, Lisl.

The Boar Hound looks a bit like a pit bull...perhaps I need to get a spike collar for our Toby...
Lisl: Perhaps that is what Boar Hounds were - I must find out and let you know, Ray
This is so beautiful!
Lisl: I photograph so much good stained glass, that I would like to show more of it

Excellent !
On distingue parfaitement tous ces animaux familiers.
Lisl: The sister window had a stag with horns and two dogs - also very real, thank you
Looks like the boar is now cornered forever, Lisl. Poor thing. I really like the added touch of blue to this exquisite scene.
Lisl: Did you notice the incongruous little monkey, Ginnie?

Fine stuff Lisl. I wonder what the age of it all is?
Lisl: It has got to be Victorian, Chris. It even had the "donors" in it like a medieval Flemish painting!

Rendu magnifique

Lisl: Such detailed glass, thank you
The dog on the left looks like a Dachshund
Lisl: It could well be, Bill - the standard size dachshund was developed to scent, chase, and flush out badgers and other burrow-dwelling animals, while the miniature dachshund was bred to hunt smaller prey such as rabbits (Wiki)

And to think I thought it was a dog Lisl.

In Namibia I once met a French hunting dog, claimed to have some Alaunt blood in the veins. Man alive - did he go after warthogs!
Lisl: That's a thought!
joli vitrail!! amitiés
Lisl: And this was just a detail!

I have to bow to superior knowledge; I've never heard of an Alaunt before. The engraving(?) is beautiful, though?
Lisl: I have some more info now, Alan: Alaunts were bred with just one purpose,- to kill. They were practically unmanageable, unlike the masstiff just as powerful but manageable and used as guard dogs for cattle. The other dog is perhaps a Lymer, a scenting hound

What wonderful craftsmanship, great capture Lisl.
Lisl: It was a window full of interest, Anne, thank you
There's a lot of fine work in the top of that window.
Lisl: I wish I could show you the rest, Brian
THey had their work cut out to hunt down boars with such ferocious tusks
Lisl: It must have been a very bloody business, Martin
I'd never heard of the Alaunt, but Wikipedia is most informative!
Lisl: Always something new on Shutterchance
I like those leaf-like elements...
Lisl: The whole window was full of them, Larry
