Shield Bugs

These are Italian Striped-Bugs or Minstrel Bugs (Graphosoma italicum). The bold red and black warning colours indicate that the insects are foul-tasting, protecting them from predators.

You have captured the colours and framed them beautifully smile
Lisl: Thank you, Cherie - they certainly stood out
Wonderful shot, Lisl! I bet not everyone catches them in this compromising position! smile
Lisl: A bonus, Elizabeth!

Wonderful image, Lisl.

These critters seem to be enjoying themselves.
Lisl: Very similar to your red stink-bug, Ray

My imagination is that soon there will be a lot more Italian Striped-Bugs....
Fabulous catch..
Lisl: I think you could be right, Astrid, thank you
Man alive, Lisl. You have nailed this tryst! smile
Lisl: Don't see this often, Ginnie, but they have nothing to fear with that colouration

Foul tasting they might be but I think there is LOVE in the air here Lisl!
Lisl: They probably taste really good to each other, Chris

En voilà  des manières.
Magnifique ces insectes aux couleurs bariolées sur ce vert lumineux au possible !
Lisl: We don't get them in England. I found these in Hungary

L'accouplement chez les punaise n'est pas très glamour ... mais ça dure un certain temps !
JP
Lisl: Mais oui!
A type of stink bug, then. There are many, many versions.
Lisl: I popped a green one in my mouth with a raspberry once. It pepper-sprayed my lips and tasted HORRIBLE!

The colour scheme of these bugs, somehow remind me of the Vatican Guard - all racy stripes. Excellent shot.
Lisl: I think one of the Italian football teams also dresses like this, Louis
New to Britain? Or was this shot in Italy?
Lisl: Hungary, Tom, but I have also seen them in the Pyrenees
Terrific shot Lisl, is this another one from your new camera?
Lisl: No - this is from my old Lumix FZ45, which I favour for insects. I haven't had the chance to use my new camera on insects yet, and can't wait for the summer days
Excellent macro Lisl, I like. Great details.
Lisl: Thank you kindly, Marie

Oh dear! It looks like they could be engaging on some sort of reproductive act. I wonder if they really are foul tasting and not just duping their potential attackers.
Lisl: I have tried one, Alan, and can confirm they are vile
That made a wonderful image.
Lisl: Thank you, Michael
