a clever construction...
Lisl: A nice finish to a thatched roof, Larry
That's really neat!! Is it on top of a house?
Lisl: This is on a visitor centre on an RSPB (Royal Sopciety for the Protection of Birds) Reserve in Weymouth on the south coast
That is so cool. What a great find.
Lisl: Thatchers here often have a "signature" on top of the roofs they have worked on

What a find on a thatched house!
Lisl: Yes - so well done, Philine
I have never seen thatch done like this before Lisl
Lisl: I have noticed that some of the thatched cottages in Dorset and Wiltshire have "signatures" on their roofs, showing who the thather was. It is often a bird. I don't know if this is a signature or just decoration, Bill
Is this a maquette for a sculpture?
Lisl: Not at all, Mary - this is probably the "signature" of the thatcher who thatched the roof to which the swan is attached. He probably fashions a swan for all his thatched roofs to show who did them
I like the way it is built in as part of the thatching.
Lisl: It is so well crafted, Brian
superbe trouvaille!! amitiés
Lisl: I was happy to find it, jean pierre

There are few thatched roofs not far from where I live that have birds crafted on to the top of the roofs.

They always capture my attention as we drive past them smile
Lisl: It's a fine way to sign them, Cherie
