The Owl and Swallow House

A notice pinned to the structure said "Working for Wildlife 2000: This folly is erected as a millennium project to provide nesting places for swallows and barn owls, which are in decline due to loss of habitat. These birds only roost in buildings, so leave old disused structures or sheds for their use".

such a beautifully composed image
Lisl: Thank you so much, sherri
A nice shot Elisabeth, this building looks much older than it says.
Lisl: Cotswold stone can be deceiving - this is on the Cotswold Way
Wonderful shot... and I love the idea of this habitat!
Lisl: Yes - I couldn't see any evidence of its being used, but not possible to see inside

Bonne initiative pour les chouettes et les hirondelles
Lisl: Something that is so important in a country which pulls down or converts all its old rural buildings

Where is this Lisl?

I need to get out more..
Lisl: This is on the Cotswold Way, just above Horton - steep climb to it as it is not very near a road
Oh, how lovely, Lisl! What a sight for sore eyes.
Lisl: It is a delight to come across it when walking, Ginnie

What a wonderful idea to support the birds. I like this folly, esp. its windows.
Lisl: It certainly is well-designed and constructed, Philine
What a good idea.

What did barn owls and swallows roost in before mankind appeared and started building?
Lisl: That's a thought, Bill. Not many caves around

Those birds can have huge parties in there. Like a hall to them.
Lisl: I would love to see inside

If this is a newish job then they have done well Lisl, and in a good cause.
Lisl: There are some excellent dry-stone wallers in the area, Chad, as you will know
It is an excellent idea to reuse old buildings to allow the birds to nest. The building is magnificent also
Lisl: This is actually a new building, Marie - built of traditional lines
I have never seen such a structure. I have barn swallows and tree swallows and have been part of a study for years. It is a successful year too.
Lisl: It is the only one I know, Mary. You will have a particular interest
A really good reason to build this delightful little building.
Lisl: Isn't it!
you showed me one of these before Lisl... it's nice that "Working for Wildlife 2000 built this to save the swallows and barn owls....petersmile
Lisl: Did I , Peter - on Shutterchance? Oh dear, I am losing it!!
A fine idea: there should be more like this!
Lisl: I do agree, but imagine the cost

that is a nice sentiment, Lisl. i am curious if owls and swallows can co-exist? i obviously know nothing of ornithology.
Lisl: Presumably it was thought so. I don't know how successful this is for birds, or if it just pleases the human eye
That is a lovely image.
We need to protect the creatures of the world. They are more important that we know.
Lisl: Thank you, Michael - yes indeed, think of bees

This is a fabulous building, I would never have guessed its use.
